Cultural Dissent Movie Night: Corals’ Last Stand

Event Listing

Scott Reef, an ancient coral atoll 300km off the Australian mainland, is home to over 1,200 species, including endangered sea snakes, green turtles, and rare cetaceans that rely on its krill-rich waters. However, this unique ecosystem is under threat as Woodside and its partners plan to drill 50 oil and gas wells in the surrounding waters, arguing the project will aid decarbonisation—an assertion conservationists strongly dispute. Corals’ Last Stand explores the potential destruction of Scott Reef and questions whether Australia can afford to risk such an irreplaceable environment for fossil fuel extraction. The half-hour film will be followed by a panel featuring film-maker Jane Hammond, as well as other enviromental activists on the front line of the climate struggle. June 28th, doors at 6:00 PM Tickets $18 Waged/$12 Concession
